Single Adults

Welcome!  You’ve found a place where “joy”, “community” and “meaning” are real-life experiences. FBC Ministry with Single Adults is about embracing people where they are in their spiritual lives and walking daily along side one another toward completeness in Christ. We’re a group that runs the gamut of “singleness” – never-been-married, divorced, abandoned, widowed, career-oriented, retired, single parent, no children, financially challenged, professionally successful, culturally diverse, recently displaced, doing just fine, not doing just fine, etc.

One thing we're not is a dating/match-making service.  You'll be safe here - yet free to build new friendships in a Godly environment.

Bottom line:  You’re not alone in your journey! Single Adults at FBC San Antonio are growing in Christ, caring for one another and impacting their world. We’re an active, vital, integral part of the faith family of First Baptist Church.

Bible Study (Sunday School) – The FBC Single Adult Ministry is formally organized around the various Sunday morning classes that follow either the Venture or Core schedules:

•    Venture Schedule members attend the 9:15 am worship service, the 10:40 am Praise and Worship singing in Wilson Chapel, and Bible Study 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in Webb Hall.
•    The Core Schedule includes Bible Study 9:30–10:30 am and worship in the Sanctuary 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Details of each class are at the links on this page. However, many Single Adults who are engaged in classes and ministries around the church other than those listed under “Singles” still join in with their appropriate Singles age or interest group for additional Bible study, topical discussions, outreach and service projects – and, of course, just fun that take place at other times and locations. You will always be welcome at a “non-Sunday School” event, even if you’re not on a particular class roll! You’ll greatly benefit from sharing and growing with peers who “get it” regarding where you are in life.

So, we encourage you to check out several groups and find your best fit. Each is led by committed, engaging and talented directors and teachers who want to assist in whatever way will enhance your growing in Christ and living an abundant life – in the real world.

Young Venture Singles

20-somethings & younger 30’s. This enthusiastic and supportive group follows the Venture Schedule on Sunday mornings: 9:15 worship in the Sanctuary, 10:40 praise singing in Wilson Chapel, and 11:00 Bible study in Webb Hall, Room 206. (See class details at Adults/Sunday School/Venture.) The Young Singles also meet on the Third Thursday evening of every month at the home of the Singles Associate Pastor and his wife (Bryan and Linda Richardson) for food, fellowship, sometimes a movie, and a real-life-oriented devotional. Community service and outreach events are interspersed throughout the year

Venture Gathering Singles

These mid-30s to early 50's Single Adults prefer the Venture Schedule and meet at 11:00 on Sundays as a dedicated discussion-table group within The Gathering class that assembles at the El Tropicana Hotel across the river from FBCSA. (See class details at Adults/Sunday School/Venture.) The format is informal, but the discussion is deep and right on target to apply to Solo living at this often fast-paced and challenging stage of life.

Young & Median Core Singles

This group is known as SA L.I.F.E. (Single Adults Living in Faith Everyday) and is a welcoming, highly encouraging group of mid-20s to mid-40s Singles who follow the Core schedule. You’ll find L.I.F.E. on Sundays in Wolfson House at 9:00-9:30 for breakfast and fellowship, then prayer and teaching from 9:30 to 10:30. (See class details at Adults/Sunday School/Core.) The content of study and discussion, and the level of mutual support for one another, sets the L.I.F.E. Group apart from your "normal" Sunday School experience.  In addition to Sunday mornings, L.I.F.E. often gathers informally at various locations at other times to share in spiritual development, social and recreational activities.

Median and Senior Singles

The FABS (Forty and Better Singles) are an energetic, diverse, multi-generational and caring bunch that is particularly inclusive and supportive. The FABS Department follows the Core schedule and gathers on Sunday mornings in Room 260 on the 2nd floor of West Hall. Join them at 9:00-9:30 for camaraderie and coffee, 9:30-9:45 for some music, info and devotion; then separate classes for 40’s/50’s and 60’s+ age groups. The Department also includes a ladies class (Side-by-Side) described in the next tab. (See class details at Adults/Sunday School/Core.) The FABS are deep into real-life topics; serving ministries; and lots of fun trips, dinners and outings – both together and by peer group.

Side-by-Side Ladies

Do you feel alone and/or misunderstood, or would you just like to be with women who “get” what being a Single female is really about? We invite you to this class where you can walk side-by-side, hand-in-hand, and heart-in-heart with like-experienced ladies as they investigate how the Bible informs life as a Single Adult woman. Along with the Scripture study, you will enjoy a setting of openness to express joys and fears and a time of fervent prayer for courage and wisdom with which to faithfully face new adventures.

The Side-by-Side Ladies follow the Core Schedule and meet on Sunday mornings, first with the FABS Department as described above, then at 9:45 in a separate class in West Hall -  Room 262B. (See class details at Adults/Sunday School/Core.)

Special Needs Adults

The Covenant Class is a Bible study for adults with substantial learning and social disabilities. This class uses a special curriculum designed for cognitively challenged adults and helps these dear brothers and sisters achieve a meaningful relationship with Christ commensurate with their understanding. Sensitive and caring teachers lead this special group that meets on the Core Schedule, 9:30-10:30 am, in West Hall, Room 263. (See class details at Adults/Sunday School/Core.)

Life Groups and Support Groups

In addition to the community-building discipleship gained from the previously described classes, all Single Adults at FBC are woven into church-wide programs of “Circles of Six” small group study cells and Heart-2-Heart life-crisis support groups (such as Divorce Care, Divorce Care for Teens, Spousal Abuse, and Grief Share), as applicable. Please see the “Circles of Six” and Heart-2-Heart pages under Prayer/Care for details on these respective ministries.
