REACH

Service Ministry

Mission

Service to church members and regular attenders who need light yard work and/or light home repair/help and are unable to perform these tasks due to any form of disability, age constraint or financial hardship.

Volunteers

REACH volunteers are the backbone of this volunteer service ministry. YOU will be the ones to Love Your Neighbor by servicing those in our congregation who have a variety of needs. Our congregants NEED your help! Please volunteer today. The more volunteers we have, the more we will be able to evenly distribute the work across the team thereby lessening the workload on us all.

Detailed description below.

Needs

REACH is a service team designed to help you in areas where you have difficulties and/or an inability to complete certain tasks. Fill out the Needs form to tell the REACH team what you need done. We are here to serve and love you.

Detailed Descriptions

Volunteer Description

REACH volunteers are the backbone of this volunteer service ministry. YOU will be the ones to service those in need in a variety of ways, primarily through light yard work or light home needs (such as bulb or filter replacements, patchwork, and more) but also through relationships that will be built over time. Without you, this ministry cannot be successful. More hands make light work!

What you bring to this ministry:

•   Your time

•   Your talents/skills

•   Your Love Your Neighbor spirit

•   Your own personal lawn equipment and/or tools, if applicable*

*FBCSA does not own any lawn or household repair equipment. It is this volunteer service ministry’s intent to assist in reimbursing the volunteer of any gas/oil costs related to the equipment used to perform the request. This can only be done if benefactors want to make charitable donations for such purposes. If the person being serviced has the necessary equipment, then we will use what they have on hand. If not, then we are requesting that the volunteers use their own equipment to service the need.

How it will work:

1. A member or regular attender will submit their request for help using either the online Needs form or calling the church office.

2. Norberto or Cece Martinez will be given the request and will make an initial call and/or visit to the requestor’s home to determine scope of project and level set expectations with the requestor.

3. If the requestor is a widow or widower, then Norberto or Cecelia Martinez will reach out to the assigned Deacon to determine whether the Deacon is able to service or assist the request.

   a. If yes, then none of the REACH volunteers will be involved.

   b. If no, then we will send out a request (via email & text) to the REACH volunteer(s) whose skills match those needed to perform the job.

4. Any volunteer who has the skill(s) and the availability to complete the job in the time frame specified will be selected to fulfill that request.

5. Both volunteer and requestor will be notified of the match and the time frame for completion.

6. A type of work order (based on the initial information gathered (#2 above) will be provided to the volunteer to ensure that expectations of the job are communicated and followed.

7. Norberto or Cecelia will be the main point of contact for any issues/scope creep/questions or concerns that may arise.

8. Norberto or Cecelia will follow up with the requestor after the work is completed to ensure that expectations were met.

9.  Any areas for improvement identified will be communicated to the service team at large.

Please note that, as a new Service ministry, there will be a trial-and-error stage as we better understand the needs and attempt to service them well. Please be patient with us!

Needs Description

Regular members and attenders to FBCSA will communicate their light house or yard needs using this Needs form. You must meet certain criteria in order to qualify for assistance.

Qualifications for Assistance:

1. Be a FBCSA member or regular attender.

2. Be physically unable to perform requested task(s) himself/herself.

3. Be in a financial position whereby employing an independent contractor to complete the task(s) being requested is/are not possible.

4. Be patient in receiving services as this service team is new and completion of task(s) will be dependent on the number and availability of our pool of volunteers.

How it will work:

1. You will fill out, to the best of your ability, a Needs form either electronically through the FBCSA website or by calling the church office during regular office hours to inform us of your service need(s).

2. You will receive a call or visit from Norberto/Cece Martinez or another REACH team member to assess the work that needs to be done and determine a timeline for completing the requested service(s).

3. REACH team leaders will determine if requestor is a widow or widower and if so, will reach out that person’s assigned Deacon to determine whether the Deacon will service or assist with the request.

  a. If requestor is not a widow or widower, then REACH team leaders (Norberto & Cece Martinez) will match job needs with one or more volunteer(s) who have skills that are needed to complete the request.

4. REACH team leaders will facilitate, with requestor and team member performing service, a mutually agreed upon date/time to complete the request.

5. REACH team member(s) will arrive at requestor’s location to perform service within the agreed upon date/time.

6. REACH team leader(s) will follow up, after service completion, with the requestor to ensure that service(s) performed met expectations.

Please note that, as a new volunteer service ministry, there will be a trial-and-error stage as we better understand the needs and attempt to service them well. Please be patient with us!
