Karen Congregation

San Antonio Karen Baptist Church was established in November 2012, and became independent from the First Baptist Church San Antonio in 2019. The Karen families were the first group that came to San Antonio as refugees in 2006. They were loved and cared for by the Lao/Thai families and the FBCSA. The Karen in the villages still believe in animism; however, the Karen received the gospel through American Missionaries Adoniram Judson, George Boardman and other missionaries in 1827.

Karenni Congregation

Cornerstone Karenni Baptist Church was established in November 2018. The Karenni came to the United States in 2009 as a refugees, like other Burmese ethnic groups. They are loved and cared for dearly with kindness by the First Baptist Church San Antonio’s families. Many Karenni have received Jesus Christ as their saviors and were baptized in FBCSA. Most families believed in animism however, after receiving the gospel they converted to Christianity.

Myanmar Congregation

The Myanmar congregation began meeting for home worship in 2008. The Gospel Myanmar Church, formerly known as the “Myanmar Christian Assembly of San Antonio” was established in 2009 and became an independent church from the First Baptist Church San Antonio in 2015. They are the First Burmese Speaking Church in San Antonio and purchased their own building in 2020. Pastor Timothy Ling Saw is the Pastor of the Gospel Myanmar Church. He received his Master of Arts in Christian Ministry, seminary degree from Dallas Baptist University in 2017.

Zomi Congregation

Zomi First Baptist Church was established in 2012 and became an independent church from the First Baptist Church San Antonio on December, 2021. The Zomi congregation is lead by Pastor Niang Lun Cing, a female minister who earned her M.Div. seminary degree at the Myanmar Institute of Theology in Insein, Yangon, Myanmar. Now she is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry Degree at Logsdon Seminary, Hardin Simmons University. Since December 2022, Zomi Sunday worship meets at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church, and they worship in their own Zomi, Chin language.

Lao/Thai Congregation

Lao/ Thai Congregation has worshiped at the First Baptist Church in San Antonio for more than thirty years. The families have been living in the United States for three generations and many of the younger families have adapted to the American culture well. When Burmese refugees arrived in San Antonio, Lao/ Thai pastor, Pastor Boun picked up the families at the airport and brought them to their apartments arranged by Catholic Charities. Currently, the Lao/ Thai Bible Study class is led by Sam Nachin and meets at FBCSA on Sunday at 9:30 am on the third floor of the Kokernot Building.
